It is a tradition for the new students of the TU Ilmenau to hike the most famous mountain of Ilmenau during the ErstiWoche. The Kickelhahn will watch over you throughout your studies, so you should have climbed it at least once. Already the old Goethe appreciated the breathtaking view from 861m altitude. Inspired by the view of the sleepy little town on the edge of the Thuringian Forest, he wrote the famous poem "Wanderers Nachtlied" in the Goethe House on the Kickelhahn.

Every student should have climbed the famous Ilmenau Kickelhahn at least once by the end of their studies at the Technical University. Because if you believe the student myths, you won't be able to successfully complete your studies here without it - and that would be a pity.
That's why we'll hike with you to the Kickelhahn on Tuesday and thus avert the dear misfortune. Your tutors will tell you in time where you will start. 

As a reward there will be the first note of your young student life, music from the student radio station hsf and of course lots of fun during your ascent together.

So put on your hiking boots and windproof clothes and off you go! Don't forget the Ersti badge!
